The Story of Unnatural Habitats

Chris Matulich is a San Francisco-based artist renowned for his captivating photo composite work that seamlessly weaves together elements of wildlife/nature, surrealism, and a unique, offbeat sense of humor. Deeply influenced by the vibrant energy of the city he calls home and the breathtaking landscapes of the greater Bay Area, he crafts evocative visual narratives that challenge perceptions and ignite the imagination.

With an unyielding belief in the transformative power of art, Chris endeavors to create thought-provoking pieces that engage the viewer on multiple levels. Through playful and dynamic compositions, he invites audiences to delve into a world of new perspective and interpret his art through their own lens, inevitably fostering a profound connection between the viewer and the artwork.

At the core of Chris's artistic practice lies a profound appreciation for the art of collage surrealism and the rebellious spirit of punk artwork. An in-depth involvement with the indie/punk music scene in his youth has now been translated into gritty textures and bold imagery ever present in his work today. Drawing from a variety of influential art forms and genres, Chris skillfully combines disparate elements, transforming ordinary images into extraordinary tales that transcend traditional boundaries.

Unnatural Habitats came to be when Chris decided to rebrand his work as something more than just himself. His artwork, design work, and apparel all lives under this name. The artist, the designer, the graphic apparel enthusiast are all integral parts of what is today, Unnatural Habitats.
